Travel Protection Plans

As a courtesy, EcoTeach will purchase a Travel Protection Plan on behalf of travelers in most groups. This helps provide coverage once the trip has departed.

While it does NOT provide coverage before the trip departs, an optional plan is available for groups of 10 or more!

EcoTeach strongly encourages the purchase of Travel Insureds’ Group Deluxe Plan or Group Deluxe with Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Plan. This additional coverage helps provide many insurance benefits and non-insurance assistance services. CFAR is not available to residents of New York.

Please note:  As EcoTeach is not providing the coverage, you must review the plan terms/ conditions carefully and determine if the plan meets your needs. You are free to purchase travel protection coverage from any company you choose.

Travel Documents and Flight Information

Passports and Visas

A passport is required for this workshop. A passport card cannot be used for travel to Peru. Apply right away if you don't have a current passport.

For US citizens, no visa is needed to enter Peru, but if your passport expires within 6 months from date of entry, we recommend you check entry requirements with the Embassy of Peru.

Visit the U.S. Department of State for passport and travel information.

Citizens of other countries must check directly with the Embassy of Peru to determine entry requirements. We urge you to review these requirements as soon as you register for the trip.

Flight Information

Participants are responsible for booking their international flights to Lima, Peru (internal flight from Lima to Iquitos arranged by EcoTeach).  If you have questions or need more information or clarification before booking your flights, please contact Deb Smucker.

Once your flights have been booked, please email your flight details and confirmation number to Deb.

FLIGHTS TO LIMA:  Plan to arrive Lima anytime on July 10th  Most flights arrive mid to late evening. Please allow at least 2-3 hours connection time on your international flights to Lima.  Airlines are often delayed, making it easy to miss a connection that has no back-up flight until the next day.

The hotel reserved for July 10th is the Costa del Sol adjacent to the airport. There is a skybridge from the airport terminal to the hotel.

FLIGHTS BACK TO THE USA:  After the conference, you will arrive back to Lima early afternoon on July 18 to connect with departures to the U.S. and will be responsible for any costs after this point.

You should book your return flight to depart after 7pm on July 18, arriving back in the USA on July 19.

NOTE:  Often you can purchase tickets all the way to Iquitos and save on overall flight costs.  It is worth investigating.  You will want to book your international fights as outlined above.  The in-country flights we plan on using from Lima to Iquitos are as follows:

July 11
LATAM Airlines Perú 2240
Depart Lima at 9:44am, arrive Iquitos 11:43am

(if you are booking your own flights to Iquitos and arrive earlier, we can arrange for an earlier airport pickup at no additional cost)

July 18
LATAM Airlines Perú 2241
Depart Iquitos at 12:33pm, arrive Lima at 2:20pm

Who We Are

Transformational Travel and Learning

Amazon Rainforest Workshops for students and educators are developed by Rainforest Workshops, LLC and are hosted by EcoTeach, Inc. Together we have over 40 years of experience in educational ecotourism and have impacted the lives of thousands of students through our field programs in Latin America. We believe travel can change the world!

Established by a teacher in 1994, EcoTeach has taken nearly 15,000 student and adult travelers on educational tours to Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Peru and Ecuador — our objective is to make travel as easy and safe as possible, using every opportunity along the way to share and teach.

The first Amazon Rainforest Workshop was launched in 1992 and more than two decades later our experiential field programs in the Peruvian Amazon continue to find new ways to immerse educators, students, and naturalists into the fascinating world of tropical ecology, indigenous culture, sustainable development, and rainforest research.
